Unity Lake State Park - Unity, Ore
Unity Lake State Park - Unity, Ore
Monday, August 13, 2012
On our return trip from Yellowstone, we happened upon Unity Lake State Park in Unity, Oregon. Nestled just off off the ‘rural side’ Oregon’s Highway 26, this state part was a bit of a pleasant surprise in the middle of nowhere. In our brief overnight stay we saw a large amount of wildlife: jackrabbits, deer, chipmunks, pelicans, cranes, and coyotes. The lake (reservoir) is beautiful and a perfect place to view a sunset, although at the time of year we visited (August) there was quite a bit of algae in the shallows and a few evening bugs(friendly, non-biting). June seems like the ideal time to visit if you want to take a good swim or fish. No reservations are provided (or needed), although you can reserve the cabins (pictured). Sites are $22/night as of this writing, level with paved approaches and pads. There are also several pull-throughs. Nearby is the Sumpter Valley Railroad (steam train) and national forest. I’m told that this is a popular base camp for spring and fall hunting expeditions. Bathrooms were clean and there is no extra charge for a hot shower (solar heated).

April 1 - Oct 31 ($22), April 1 - 31 and Oct 1-31 ($17)
